Taipei, a city bursting with culinary delights, is a food lover’s paradise.

During my visit, I’ve discovered some amazing spots that I can’t wait to share with you. This is not an exhaustive list, but a collection of my personal favorites that I find myself returning to time and again. Whether you’re in town for a day or a week, these top 5 food and drink spots will give you a taste of Taipei’s vibrant food culture.

So hop in a taxi or Uber, and let’s embark on a delicious adventure through Taipei.

1. Monga Chicken Chop Tonghua (艋舺雞排 通化店)

Located in the bustling Linjiang Night Market (臨江街觀光夜市), Monga Chicken Chop is a must-visit for its savory and spicy fried chicken.

Make sure to only order a few to try since these are FRIED CUTLETS–as in the pieces are quite large and, of course, savory. But you might not be able to finish them.

2. Homemade Bao

Homemade Bao is my go-to spot for a quick and satisfying meal. Whether starting my day or heading out on a road trip, I always grab a few baos from this place. The most popular choices are #1 and #3, both of which are delicious. These soft, fluffy baos are a perfect blend of savory and sweet, making them an ideal breakfast or snack.

3. Taihu Brewing Driftwood Ximending (西門町)

After a visit to Liangshan Po Soup Dumplings (梁山泊小籠湯包), head over to Taihu Brewing Driftwood in Ximending.

Trust me, after you’ve waited over an hour in line for dumplings, you’ll want a beer. I don’t know if I could justify another super long wait at the dumpling spot.

Taihu is great for relaxing with a mix of American R&B and Rap music while enjoying a rotating selection of beers on draft. It’s also conveniently located near the Ximending night market, making it a perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploring. I ended up coming here twice during my trip.

4. Liao Jia Beef Noodle Restaurant (廖家牛肉麵)

Just a 10-minute walk from Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Liao Jia Beef Noodle Restaurant is a great place to start your day. Arrive early to ensure you get a bowl of their famous beef noodle soup before it sells out.

The other items on the menu are also really good, especially the accompanying sauces. Our waitress noticed that I liked spicy food and brought out some extra spicy sauce, which made the whole dish pop even more.

The spicy sauces and tender beef make this dish a standout, and the friendly service adds to the overall experience.

5. Deep Fried Mushroom (Linjiang Night Market)

Linjiang Night Market is home to many culinary delights, but the deep-fried mushrooms are a standout.

These crunchy yet tender mushrooms offer a flavorful bite that’s both satisfying and a bit healthier than other fried foods. They make for a perfect snack as you wander through the market, sampling various treats.
