During my visit, there was construction on the elevator leading to the concierge floor, but this did not detract from the grandeur of the atrium. As your gaze drifts upward, you’ll notice that each floor retains elements of its historic essence—it’s almost as if looking up is a journey through time. Yet, when you check in, you’ll be transported back to modern times as you enter the newer part of the hotel, where the rooms are situated, abutting the storied walls of The Liberty Hotel.

Luxurious Amenities and Perks

Each room at the Liberty is tastefully appointed with modern furnishings, plush bedding, and upscale amenities. Here’s what you can expect to enjoy:

• Spacious rooms and suites: Many boast stunning views of the Charles River. However, if you’re sensitive to noise or prefer more privacy, request a room that doesn’t directly face Mass Eye and Ear. Trust me—your sleep will thank you.
• Fine dining: Multiple restaurants, including the renowned CLINK, offer delectable cuisine.
• Chic bars: Enjoy craft cocktails at Alibi, a popular weekend nightspot. You can even unwind near the preserved “bars” from the jail’s past.
• Late checkout: While not officially part of American Express’ Fine Hotels program, the Liberty often accommodates late checkouts, sometimes extending until 1:30 pm or 2:30 pm, depending on availability and events.

Prime Location in Beacon Hill

The Liberty Hotel is nestled in the heart of Beacon Hill, one of Boston’s most charming neighborhoods. Its cobblestone streets, historic homes, and proximity to the Charles River Esplanade make it a delightful area to explore on foot. The hotel’s location is incredibly convenient for:

• Business travelers: It offers easy access to downtown Boston and the Financial District, with public transportation options nearby.
• Medical visitors: It’s literally next door to Massachusetts General Hospital, and you can even walk through the hospital from the entrance closest to the Liberty to avoid the cold.
• Tourists: The hotel is within walking distance of many popular attractions, including the Boston Common and the Freedom Trail. If you’re new to Boston, be sure to explore the Esplanade or take a jog along the Charles River. And if your knee is acting up like mine (and you don’t want to alarm your doc or PT), then head to J.P. Licks (150 Charles St.) for a delicious ice cream break.
