• Affordable Comfort: Hotel 1868 offers competitive rates year-round, but it truly shines during peak periods like graduation when other accommodations inflate their prices. You can rest assured knowing you’re getting great value for your money.

A Note on Rewards Points: While Hotel 1868 is a fantastic value, it’s worth noting that during peak times like graduation season, when hotel prices are high, it may not be available through rewards programs like American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts. During my stay, I booked directly with the hotel and wasn’t able to earn the usual 4x points on my American Express Platinum card. If maximizing points is a priority for you, factor this in when making your decision.

• Local eats: Savor delicious bagels at Bagelsaurus or flavorful Peruvian chicken at Machu Chicken. Or grab breakfast at a local diner, Andy’s Diner. Hopefully, you read that and didn’t read this next sentence. There is a popular Japanese udon restaurant that for some reason is also located here called Yume Ga Arukara.
• Coffee fix: Nero Café next door ensures you’re never far from your caffeine boost. Get there early, since seats fill up fast.
• Everyday essentials: Forgot something? No worries! CVS and Target are conveniently located right across the street.

Free Things to Do in Boston (and Cambridge!)

Don’t let budget constraints limit your fun! Boston offers plenty of free activities to enjoy:

• The Freedom Trail: Walk through history on this 2.5-mile path, connecting 16 significant historical sites like Paul Revere’s House and the Old North Church. It’s a fantastic way to immerse yourself in Boston’s revolutionary past.
• Boston Common and Public Garden: Relax and soak in the beauty of these iconic green spaces in the heart of the city. These parks are perfect for a picnic, a leisurely stroll, or people-watching.
• Harvard University Campus: Immerse yourself in the intellectual heart of Cambridge by wandering through Harvard’s historic campus, admiring its beautiful architecture. You might even stumble upon a free lecture or event – the Harvard Science Center, shaped like a vintage Kodak camera. (Who knows, you might even catch Dr. Tucci’s Intro to Gen Chem class!)
